A laboratory split-type muffle furnace features a separate controller and furnace body, allowing operators to control the unit without standing close to the high-temperature chamber. This design improves operating safety and provides greater flexibility when positioning the furnace in a fume hood or a separate workspace. It is widely used for ash content determination, material sintering, ceramic firing, and high-temperature heat treatment, making it a common piece of equipment in materials science, metallurgy, and chemical laboratories.
Working Principle
The furnace uses electric heating elements inside the chamber to generate heat when powered on. Combined with thermal insulation materials, the heating system raises the chamber temperature to the preset level and maintains it during operation. More than 10 models are available, with chamber capacities ranging from 3.5 to 30 L, power ratings of 2.5–12 kW, and weights of 50–360 kg. Compact models are suitable for benchtop use, while larger models are designed for floor-standing installation. The split-type design separates the high-temperature furnace body from the control unit, helping protect the controller from prolonged exposure to heat.
Applications
Split-type muffle furnaces are available in three temperature grades, each using a different heating element: 1,000°C models use resistance wire, 1,200°C models use high-temperature resistance wire, and 1,300°C models use silicon carbide rods. Users can select the appropriate heating element according to their process temperature requirements. These furnaces are commonly used for ash content testing, metal heat treatment, ceramic glaze firing, catalyst calcination, and materials research in university laboratories.
When selecting a laboratory split-type muffle furnace, first determine the maximum operating temperature required for your application. Choosing a model with insufficient temperature capacity may limit its use. Select a chamber size based on your typical sample volume, allowing some extra space for convenient loading. For split-type models, check whether the connecting cable between the controller and furnace body is long enough for your intended installation and positioning. Silicon carbide heating elements support higher operating temperatures but generally come at a higher cost, so choose them only when required by your process. Other important considerations include matching the furnace's power requirements to the available electrical supply, as well as checking the chamber material, door sealing, and overtemperature protection.
Split-type box resistance furnace

Equipped with a thickened insulation layer on all sides, providing thermal insulation and flame retardancy for safe, efficient operation. The furnace chamber is constructed from sintered refractory material, ensuring excellent thermal insulation.

High-quality refractory furnace chamber—durable, robust, and resistant to high temperatures.

Three types of heating elements (resistance wires) are available, offering different maximum operating temperatures:
1. Standard resistance wire.
2. High-temperature resistance wire.
3. Silicon carbide (SiC) heating element.
Resistance furnaces that utilize resistance wires as heating elements must not be used to heat plastics, dental prosthetics (dentures), or similar materials. Doing so may cause the resistance wires to melt or break, thereby shortening the service life of the equipment.

Split-design to prevent high-temperature damage to the controller.
The controller is separate from the electric furnace, allowing for flexible placement; this protects the controller from high-temperature exposure and extends the equipment's service life.

Reinforced dual hinges ensure a secure connection between the furnace door and the furnace body, providing excellent sealing.
An integrated display and ammeter allow for real-time monitoring of the unit’s operation and precise temperature control.
The refractory furnace chamber features high hardness and exceptional heat resistance; it is robust and resistant to corrosion.
A handle is provided for opening and closing the furnace door, featuring a simple, straightforward design.
